Where are the allies in the war on trans people?

According to a lawsuit filed today, the state of Texas has officially started investigating parents of trans children. Among the first known investigations are the state employee parents of a 16 year old transgender child.

These children are receiving scientifically backed affirming care. This comes less than a week after Governor Abbott issued a directive to CPS to add the providing of affirming care to what constitutes child abuse.

The moment that this directive was issued, trans people were rallied and began organizing to fight and protest it. But where are the cisgender people who claim to support us? Why are we not hearing from more politicians? The GOP has decided to use trans people as a way to drive their voters to the polls while Democrats have thoroughly decided not to engage.

At todays Rally To Protect Trans Children, hundreds of people came together to show their support in the middle of both a workday and the Texas Primaries.

At this critical juncture we need people who are not connected to any trans people to step up. We need regular people to make their voices heard and to show that this kind of intolerance is not allowed. We need politicians who will make it known that they support trans rights and equal protections.

This attack is being overshadowed by the war going on in Europe, but it is affecting so many of us. Be aware, this is a war at home. Just last year Texas passed a new law that went into effect banning trans kids from playing on sports teams of their proper gender.

They were emboldened to make this next step, and if you think that they will stop after this you will be sadly mistaken. GOP lawmakers will move on to trying to ban all gender affirming care next and then move on to other members of the LGBTQ community.

The next step in this war is an attempted special session to codify this new policy. They know that this has zero standing but are hoping to bring it all the way to the Supreme Court to have it made into a legal precedent.

Right now trans activist and lawyer Lyra along with other trans activists are putting together a website and app to support families of trans children trying to get to a safe location. If you or anyone you know can support families they can reach out.
